Description
SIEMENS RAJA+ DOL STARTER, 3TW7291-1A
SIEMENS DOL STARTER
A Direct On-Line (DOL) starter is indeed a common method used to start three-phase induction motors. In a DOL starter, the motor is directly connected to the full voltage of the power supply during the starting process. This direct connection allows the motor to quickly reach its operating speed.
The basic components of a DOL starter typically include a contactor, overload relay, and a start button. When the start button is pressed, the contactor closes, allowing the full voltage to be applied across the motor terminals. The overload relay protects the motor from overheating by sensing the current drawn by the motor and tripping if it exceeds a certain threshold.
DOL starters are simple and economical but may cause a high inrush current during starting, which can sometimes lead to voltage dips in the power supply and mechanical stress on the motor and connected equipment. Despite these drawbacks, they are widely used in various industrial applications where precise speed control during starting is not necessary.
